November 9, 2019 The Ivo Van Hove-directed production of West Side Story coming to Broadway this winter is making some big changes to the classic musical. The director is cutting "I Feel Pretty", which is sung entirely by the female characters, and the "Somewhere" Ballet in order to shorten the show to one act. He also noted the show will use the film's version of "America", and that it will utilize video, much like his previous productions of All About Eve and Network.

November 13, 2019As the above visuals and the aforementioned cuts to the show reveal, this adaptation seems to focus largely on the men of West Side Story. Needless to say, many people are unhappy with the cuts and the male focus, as well as the continued employment of Amar Ramasar as Bernardo.
Included in this story are details on the allegations of misconduct against Amar Ramasar, who was just cast in the major Broadway revival of West Side Story.

July 10, 2019In case you missed it, here is a link to an article that explains in detail why Ramasar was fired (and then rehired) by the NYC Ballet last year, along with several other male ballet dancers, for allegedly sharing intimate photos of a coworker with other coworkers without consent. What it doesn't explain is why he was hired as a lead for West Side Story, and the refusal to comment on his hiring is not sitting well with many Broadway fans.
