As somebody who's not from the US, I have a stupid question: how likely is it at this point that he's going to get impeached? I don't really know how this works.

Chances are good he'll be impeached in the House, but the Senate isn't terribly likely to remove.

From the post:

. The House votes to Impeach. A simple majority 51% is all it takes to send the article(s) of impeachment to the Senate for a trial. Democrats have enough votes without bipartisan support.

. The Senate holds the trial to Remove. A 2/3rd super majority is required to Remove a President from office. It would take ~20 Republicans to break ranks.

Dems have the HOUSE majority, but Republicans have the Senate so he probably won't be removed.

How many senate Dems broke ranks for Clinton?

I think he'll be impeached but he'll stay in office.

He will probably be impeached by the house. Impeached presidents are not obligated to leave office or resign unless they are found guilty of the crime of which they are accused by the senate during a trial, which has never happened in the US. Nixon resigned before the house could convene, and Clinton and Zachary Taylor were acquitted in their senate trials.

There is nothing explicit in the constitution that demands the Senate try an impeached president, it is more of a "this must be done for law and order thing". In this case, with McConnell et al pretty uninterested in precedent, the senate is unlikely to even convene a trial when he is impeached, so he cannot be removed from office.

The republicans...they will turn their back. These hearings are really damaging...

They'll only do that if they feel there is no way he can be reelected or they feel all of their jobs are in jeopardy and I don't think we are close to that. His approval rating among his own party is not low enough, it's wishful thinking at this point.

I want to believe you, but I can't...at all. It has said Republicans will turn against him so many times. Even today Nunes is giving talking points projecting things they themselves are doing, so the sycophants can start more "but what about the dems..." arguments.

Nope. Too much of their base is all in on trump. They will never risk turning them off.

Andrew Johnson, not Zachary Taylor.
