K-pop is appealing to lots of young people, because they have many performers who can sing, dance AND put on a show, they make a point to make the music actually catchy, they do a lot of promo, have fun visuals for music videos...

When you make a band like 5th Harmony, where there's one person that can dance and most of the group is a black hole of charisma, and then you give them the same music everybody else's doing right now, and have them just writhe sexily in every video, that's not gonna be a huge worldwide phenomena.

And I'm not even much of a k-pop fan, I just like some old stuff. But it's not hard to see what's appealing about it (and why Simon Cowell can't recreate it)

Well, if only he can produce a band that can both sing and dance at the same time with actual bops.

The closest he has is Little Mix. And he did not even support them to go global when they had such potential. And that ship has sailed.
