I'm struuuuuggling through this book, ngl. It's just so very, very wholesome. I know I should've read it a million years ago before I was a bitter old lady (and before that Friends episode thoroughly spoiled it for me. "Is it like a girl-girl thing? Because that is the one thing missing from The Shining!"), but it's too late now. But it def seems like Greta deliberately updated the feminism and stuff and will presumably give them more dimensions, so I'm gonna stick it out.

(also Emma is miscast. sry.)

I wondered if you'd finished yet! I still need to read it and I am bracing myself, lol. Wish I'd read it as a kid - I read a ton, don't know how I missed it, tbh.

Once I'm really in it then it's kind of endearing, I just have to keep reminding myself who it was written for and when. It makes sense in that context, it's just...not necessarily what I'd pick up otherwise, lol.

I didn't particularly like the book either, for the same reason, but I'm glad I read it. Am looking forward to seeing this version on screen.

I need this to be good, my hopes for the remainder of the year are resting on this, Knives Out and Marriage Story.

Well Marriage Story is fantastic, imo, so you should be 1/3 at the very least!! I'm also looking forward to Knives Out.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Marriage Story will end up in my top 10. I might've seen it on the big screen but it's only got 2 showings here and they're both when I'm at work :(

Saoirse is so impressive in one of the trailers for this, plus she's doing these emotional monologues with an excellent american accent. Emma seems out of place.
