I've really been enjoying The Outer Worlds. It reminds me of New Vegas and also the good parts of Mass Effect. I wasn't sure at first how I felt about the smaller worlds (ala Mass Effect) instead of one large open world, but they are crafted well and I like them. I'm dying ALL THE TIME... like, I've read reviews that say the combat is easy, so I don't know if it's just me and I've been playing too much RDR and Borderlands? But, I've had to get very used to dying. I enjoy the companions. The writing is spectacular. I like the story so far. It's fun playing something again that has gray area all over. Like... sure this corporation is "bad," but if we topple this all these people will inevitably die, but in the long run is it the correct decision. I LOVE that shit and have been eating it up.
That said, I did switch back to Red Dead Online this weekend and didn't look back. Other games I CANNOT put down, this one I seem to be able to. But I'm not sure if that's the fault of the game, or my indecisiveness. Overall: Very Good!
LOL My Space Captain is a murderous dumb brute, who can barely string sensible sentences tougher... but hits things hard and fast. Also I'm playing him solo with no companions, so when I kill everyone and everything I don't feel as bad.
it's lots of fun. reminds me of mass effect and KOTOR, with the gameplay style of fallout. i could never get into fallout--it was just too drab--and i haven't found that to be true for this at all.
I'm playing TOW right now and I'm loving it. It's the perfect mix of old Fallout and old Mass Effect, though I'm slightly bummed it doesn't have romances. The writing is very on point and the companions are really well thought-out.
The best thing about it that there's lots of ways to complete missions or to go about achieving things, and you can really craft an identity in how your character acts or responds to things. My only gripe here is that some of the dialogue checks are way too easy, like you can basically lie/persuade/intimidate your way out of nearly every situation so far without needing to beef up those skills that much.
Some of the quests are a little formulaic/repetitive but I'm still having fun with it and have found it boring. It is a lot of reading though, like with terminal entries or correspondence that you kind of have to read in order to get important context or clues on how to complete certain objectives. It's entertaining stuff to read still but I know that kind of thing isn't for everyone.
If you like games like Fallout, Skyrim & Mass Effect I think you'll really dig The Outer Worlds. I honestly think it's really good & I love the companions. Vicar Max is my favorite. His character is constantly throwing curveballs at me. You expect him to be one way, then he's the opposite. I love him lmao.

Edit: if you have a PC or Xbox it’s $1 with games pass.... defs worth it.

Agreed, not as good as New Vegas, but more stable and still very enjoyable.

It's my Game of the Year, next to Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
It's such a spiritual successor to the earlier Fallout games.
Does almost everything right as far as a true RPG experience goes.
Honestly, if the Devs had the budget and power to make even more polished and "AAA game" from The Outer Worlds, it would be a truly classic game.
I highly recommend it!
