Member of idol girl group LinQ, Chiaki Yoshikawa, woke up to the news that historical castle of Shuri in Naha, Okinawa, was being destroyed by a great fire. Expressing feelings of sadness over the loss of an important landmark for Okinawa and Japan.

Shuri Castle, a symbol of Okinawa Prefecture, was just destroyed in a fire early Thursday morning (Japan time). The cause of the fire remains unknown. There were no reports of injuries, police and fire officials said.

In total, 4,200 square meters have been destroyed. The castle long served as the heart of the Ryukyu Kingdom and the castle ruins were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000.

Naha Mayor Mikiko Shiroma told reporters that she is “very shocked” about the fire. “It is extremely regrettable”.
