And one snap from a human could kill that baby too sis! Of course some dogs are violent (mostly because of trauma they've experience), but you'd be surprised at how protective, gentle, and loving dogs can be with babies! They fully understand that this human is fragile af.
This! My German Shepherd is a huge spazz of a beast, but around my niece it's almost like he tiptoes. Blocks her from walking down stairs and other people from her so they won't knock her over. It's awesome (and surprising...cuz he's normally distructo and has headbutted many a people in the crotch. Taken out kneecaps...)
It's not delusional? Dogs evolved and developed beside humans and our brains are oddly connected unlike most domesticated animals. On top of that the centuries of breeding make dogs instinctively aware of humans and wanting to protect them. Or you can look at it in a more "animalistic" approach, if you don't protect the humans you won't get fed so you need to protect the humans so you don't have to look for food like wolves do. Dogs really do understand that babies and small humans are fragile and need to be protected. It's on a biological level to them. It's not being a delusional dog owner.
Thank you. These fucking dog owners they all think their dogs are saints and no one should be afraid of them. Like I live in NY and amount of people walking their dogs without a leash is insane! I get it you love your dog and don't think it's gonna hurt anyone, but one time (8 years ago or so) this huge fucking dog just jumped at me while I was just walking by, thankfully owner was a feet away and was able to get him out of me, but for fuck's sake keep 'em on the leash! I don't care how you don't think it would hurt me, it's still an animal you can't know his actions and what he thinks.
Dogs are intelligent enough to know that babies are fragile like puppies though. The large majority of dogs will act with a lot more caution around small creatures like that.
dog are insanely smart when it comes to babies. babies are unintentionally rough with dogs and dogs majority of the time let the tiny human terrorize them but also are very protective of them too. when i was a toddler my grandma's dog sat right next to me all the time to protect me and watch me. One time I got really hurt from falling and the dog ran to other people to make sure they checked on me. she was never taught to do those kinds of things, she just knew to do it. I love dogs.
I will agree with that. My dog is insane. Super high energy and constantly excited.
When he first met my friends baby he was his normal self and made her cry. After that he’s been super gentle. I’ve got video of them playing (from my friend. I’m still uneasy with it) and he’s so gentle with her
Yeah, dogs are gentle... They're also animals. I have 2 100lb dogs. I never thought they'd hurt a fly. We've raised them from pups, they're 4. My kids roll around in the floor with them, the whole 9 yards...
Last month, one of them jumped up on a kid and bit him in the face.
Now. He didn't MEAN to hurt the kid, and after all the dust settled, we think what happened was he was jumping up for a kiss and misjudged the space or the kid moved. 1 stitch in a 10 year old's face. If my dog had WANTED to hurt him, he would have been leaving here in an ambulance and not in his mom's car to get the stitch. There was zero threat. My dog didn't bark or act threatened in anyway. The kid just followed my son into my house. As soon as the kid reacted, he ran to his kennel, he knew he did bad. This has never been a problem with kids before. He's protective of adult strangers, but never kids. We now have strict rules about kennels when anyone is coming over, even if it's someone they've been around before. If the door is open, the dogs are kenneled until we decide it's a good idea to let them back out. Not because I think my dog is vicious by any means, but because he's already proven once that he can/will draw blood. Even if it was accidental.
"Dogs won't hurt anyone if they're trained!" mentality is doing no one favors, it's just as bad as "no bad dogs, only bad owners." Sometimes, a dog just "animals" and I don't blame anyone for feeling uncomfortable with an infant being with any dog, much less a large one.
Yup. My own dog has accidentally toothed me on my face when going for kisses. It happens, he hasn’t broken skin. But he’s a big doofus who is quite clumsy, and a bulldog who is a legit “bull in a china shop”. He is a great dog and I have so much trust in him, but I don’t trust him around kids. He’s a dog, and I think most kids give off wild energy and dogs don’t like that
