The joke on Brooklyn Nine-Nine is that Captain Holt is a robot-- but he's also the most FEELING character of the show, a man who practices restraint and translates affection into action. The world could be a much better place if we all learn from Holt's brand of "analytical love."

i love how this show doesnt give a f about race or gender stereotypes.
holt is gay and black and it’s never the butt of any joke

That's my absolute favourite thing about that show, it's rare to find comedy that doesn't punch down but this one never does.

I've always liked how he's a gay black cop and it's part of his identity/experience but it isn't his entire purpose.

Yeah. I like that they show Jake idolizing him from the jump, and no machismo bullshit.

yeah, and with Jake and Amy it could have easily gone to a place of Jake wanting Amy to quit because he needs to make sure she's alive and safe and blah blah that nonsense that normally happens in these scenarios, but instead he helps her study and while competitive they still support each other
