I still don’t understand why anyone in there right mind would chose to social climb with those ugly racist losers. Her and Kate could have the same lifestyle with a rich tech dude and not have the world all in their business

same? i like her, but nobody marries into that family if they don't want the money, fame, and prestige. how wouldn't she realistically know how brutal it could be?
the tabloids treat her horribly and i hope she finds a way to cope and detatch.

She was also an American teenager at the time. Social media wasn't even a thing back then. I think it's a stretch to think that a teenager living in California in the 90s would have a complete understanding of what Diana went through. We all just liked her, knew she had some shit with the BRF but was a very charitable person and knew that she died tragically.

I guess that the way that I see it everyone knew that Diana was hounded by the press. But I don't think the rumors and stories and abuse she had to put up with was as widely covered in the US. But that's just my experience so I can understand an American not really understanding how vicious the British press can be. I'm not saying she had no idea that it could be bad, but I don't think she realized how deep it could be.

It was just devastating. I instantly comprehended how tragic her death was, but it wasn't until a couple of years later when I was reading one of those in-depth books about her life that I really grasped the shit she really had to go through in the years leading up to her death. It just makes it even worse because she genuinely seemed like a beautiful, generous soul :(

Yeah but idt a foreign teenager would have a complete understanding of just how brutal the UK tabloids were, particularly pre-social media and before the internet took off as the source of all news.

Also it'd been 20 years since Diana's death when Harry proposed to her, there'd been a massive inquiry in 2009 that took down more than one tabloid for phone hacking, it's not surprising she might not realise things could get THIS bad in 2018-19.

I don't think American's understand the brutality of the British press when it comes to the BRF honestly.

How would she know the extent tho ...how would she know the isms/ists of another country, how would she know that tabloids are taken seriously as news over there versus over here. Being told something is bad, and anticipating that, doesn't mean you'll be fully prepared for that. On top of that most Americans are probably under some delusional idea that the press over there changed after Diana died.

People love to talk about "social climbing" (which already gets a side eye from me since Meghan is a woc) which they'll readily believe but can't accept the simple answer of her liking this dude.
