The Californian in me immediately gravitated towards Dawn as a kid but in reality I'm probably more like Claudia and Mallory.

Lmao I was born in California but raised elsewhere so I used to be all-in on Dawn's California adventures to live vicariously through her.

I read these books because there was an Asian as a main character. That was life changing for a kid who only ever saw white people in the books I read.

So obviously I loved Claudia best.

Claudia was arguably one of the best members of that group.

I read a few too bc Claudia was Asian but I couldn’t relate to her at all. She stressed me out bc she was messy and iirc, she was bad at school and kind of irresponsible? I forget, but nerdy me related more with the boring one (whomever that was). Oh and I was too intimidated by Claudia’s fashuns

i can definitely understand this but i liked that claudia didn't fit into that asian model minority stereotype.

also i think the boring one was mary-anne? it's been a while since i read them lol

I never read these...but I read the little sister ones.

And someone said, "Karen grew up to be Lena Dunham" and you know what? That's true.

I remember and loved the TV series myself. (I did see the movie as well, but it's been a long time.)

As a child, I wanted to be a Stacey, but I knew I was a MaryAnne.

As an adult, I'm probably a bit of a Dawn.

I feel this. Actually, if I'm being really honest a Mary Anne (sheltered, only child)/Mallory(glasses & braces-wearing, curly-headed, awkward mess) hybrid.

As much as I loved Jessie (what with her being the only black girl), I knew I was more like Mallory, with maybe a little of Mary-Ann tossed in.
