Maybe I'm a snob but I agree with him. There's a place in the world for brain junk food tho, so both can exist and be fine

Same, idc. It's the most 'old man yelling at cloud' opinion I have.

He's totally right. The theme park analogy is quite apt.

Really? We're still doing this? I mean, he doesn't have to like them, but making those kinds of wide, vague generalizations just make him sound out of touch. No one person gets to determine what "cinema" means. This gatekeeping shit is boring, whether it's dumb Reddit bros or actually experienced directors.

they're actors doing commercials for toys and theme parks so his comparison is apt. their likenesses are there for endless commercialization. im tired of it

I love blockbusters and pop music as much as the next person, too but these stans are dishonest to themselves and to other people if they deny the gist of what Scorsese said.

Every MCU film is a long ad. An ad for the MCU itself, theme parks, and toys. An ad for the next film. An ad for their likenesses.

And considering that Disney/Marvel has completely swallowed Hollywood, it is disingenuous to deny criticism against them. These stans want to be part of the conversation but refuse to examine their own views about art and the underlying commercialization of the superhero film factory. They will continue to deny criticism for the most popular franchise ever. That's dangerous and boring

it's funny you mentioned stranger things bc s3 is like a marvel movie to me. action, comedy, relationships -- it's like an eight episode long superhero movie
