hopefully seeing ad astra this weekend. oh and there's a lgbtq film festival so i'm also seeing knife+heart and portrait of a lady on fire (and hail satan?, which they're also screening for some reason). looking forward to all of them, i have high hopes! i've seen some not that enthused reviews for astra but i legitimately stanned lost city of z so my mind is open.

I love that we're all seeing Portrait of a Lady on Fire one film festival at a time! Sounds like a good lineup.

I still need to watch Lost City of Z.

i'm so jealous--i want to see portrait of a lady on fire!

i like hail satan? i wanted to love knife+heart, but it was so disappointing and boring despite some really great moments.

oh really? agh well i'm seeing it tomorrow so i guess i'll see for myself lol. i'm def intrigued by it being a kind of take on cruising, which is one of the weirdest movies i've seen. i just bought the 4k blu ray and the commentary is so fucking funny. friedkin really hates pacino.

omg! i've been meaning to rewatch cruising! thanks for the unintended reminder.
😂--i need to hear this commentary.

yeeea, it's nothing like cruising and really doesn't feel very gay, tbh, despite being created by an openly gay man and starring mostly gay characters and played by at least one openly gay man, which is probably why i was so disappointed by it. if you've seen islands it's stylistically similar, but less weird or thought provoking and with a lot more padding and weirdly focused on outdated gay stereotypes unironically.

if you would like to watch something closer to cruising i recommend hard if you can find it. if you can't, let me know; i think i have a link.

oh it's a good one. richard gere was actually friedkin's first choice and had signed to play it but pacino got wind of it and wanted it (probably thinking it was another potential dog day afternoon/panic in needle park sort of transgressive movie) so the studio strong armed him in! then of course he got on set and dudes were literally fisting and he was like oh... oh NO

hard looks pretty interesting tbh, i'll look out for it lol. i love 90s movies.

that's really weird and disappointing re the stereotypes, i figured it might be a little smarter than that seeing as how the whole idea set behind it seems pretty fun and intriguing. well, hopefully i'll enjoy the soundtrack at least, and i do love me some vanessa paradis.

i am dying at the thought of pacino running from set during the fisting scene à la moses in the prince of egypt.

i've wanted to see it for probably a decade and finally found it online this year. i love the soundtrack, which includes my favorite george michael song, "too funky", and the ultraviolence and a lot of the humor, some of the cheesy dialogue, and the unexpectedly good conclusion.

there are some bright moments because of the soundtrack. the scene i remember the most is my favorite song from the soundtrack playing during the filming of a threesome scene. i was more excited for the soundtrack than the movie because i love the soundtrack for you & the night and enjoyed the movie overall.
