Although many of the films that screened at TIFF this year were critically praised, the buyer's market at the festival was pretty slow, likely thanks to a number of recent festival purchases performing poorly at the box office. But in the past week or so, several acquisitions have been announced. Today, A24 confirmed that they picked up Saint Maud, one of the horror titles featured in TIFF's Midnight Madness section. Details about this film & more under the cut.

Saint Maud

TIFF Reviews:

. @A24 has picked up #SaintMaud following its TIFF debut. The film is a cross between "First Reford" and "The Exorcist." Our review: https://t.co/1lGj1QFOHC pic.twitter.com/dSvvsVtMKG

David Ehrlich for Indiewire: "A slender but unholy cross between First Reformed and The Exorcist, Rose Glass’ taut and trembling “Saint Maud” transmutes a young woman’s spiritual crisis into such a refined story of body horror that genre fans might feel like they’re having a religious experience"

TIFF Reviews:

The dark comedy 'Bad Education'-based on a true story about an embezzlement scandal at a public school-is a great reminder of Hugh Jackman's range as an actor. @adamchitwood reviews from #TIFF19 https://t.co/gATLqsCRrq
- Collider (@Collider) September 9, 2019
Adam Chitwood for Collider: "... serves as a pretty searing indictment of greed and privilege, and although the themes don’t entirely coalesce by the end, Finley crafts a consistently compelling and often humorous tale anchored by Jackman’s impressively nuanced performance."

Toronto Film Review: Hugh Jackman in ‘Bad Education’ https://t.co/pFUEAJChOp
- Variety (@Variety) September 9, 2019
Peter Debruge for Variety: "True-crime movies so often serve to reinforce the notion that wrongdoers are eventually brought to justice in this country. But Bad Education refuses to get so reductively didactic."
