"But the goal is for the film to land, to speak to someone, whether it’s now or a decade from now. I find chasing it actually a disservice to the purity of your telling a story, and a shackling thing to focus on.”

That and Brad already won one for producing 12 Years a Slave lol. I remember he looked really happy when he was given his award so yeah okay Brad.

Most celebs seem to chill on the Oscar bait films and campaigning after they've won one.

leo legit took 3 years off acting after he won his oscar, so you know what his goal was (as if it wasn't blindingly obvious)

Yep. Leo was Oscar-baiting ever since Catch Me If You Can/Gangs of New York (2002) up until he won in 2015. That was a 13 year campaign strategy!

I don't even think he's baiting as hard with OUATIH compared to the past. Kate Winslet even seem to take a break on Oscar-baity films after she won.

oh yeah you can tell leo does not give a fuck anymore. seems like he'd rather do environmental docs than anything else

Part of me is kinda liking that only because I think Leo is a good actor buuuuut I think his thirst to win one affected his acting cause you can tell he's all in energy into delivering those oscar-winning shots lol whereas some of pre-oscar bait films he seemed more natural~ish.

Granted I think he'll Oscar-bait again some time in later life once his Oscar collects some dust lol.

hes was thristing for it ever since he was nominated for gilbert grape and didnt win. it's been a whole lifes mission to craft his career to win one.

Oh I know but the consistent campaign started with CMIYC and Gangs of New York.

I bet he was trying during titanic

Most likely but he wasn’t nominated. The Oscar campaign ball starts rolling hard 2002 and up.

yes but campaigning doesnt guarantee a nom its just about trying. so I'm sure he tried for titanic, basketball diaries, romeo+juliet, and man in the iron mask. knowing him he probably thought the beach was worthy too

Yeah I get that but I don’t count them all that much since 2002 is when he gets serious critical acclaim after man in the iron mask and the beach were flops in his post-titanic career. People thought he wasn’t matching up to his titanic fame so when he came back~ in 2002 the critical acclaim and Oscar considerations were more heavily considered. The Oscar bait was more amplified and aggressive compared to his pre-titanic movies.

Kate leaped to work with Woody Allen on Wonder Wheel after she had already won in 2009. She's been nom'd seven times and she's very competitive. She wants another one, don't be fooled.

Leo waited so long to get his, he's settled into and accepted his place in Hollywood. He'd enjoy winning another one but I don't get the feeling that he's nearly as competitive as Kate is. He knows he has at least another 10 years of still getting good roles.

Kate won back in 2008 and didn’t nom’d again until 2016 for Steve Jobs.

Kate def took a break on the baiting after she won cause if you look at her Oscar nods before winning they were more frequent and almost every year with a gap of only 2-3 years. There was a clear consistency. Whereas there’s a 7-8 year gap in nominations after she won.

I mean just they won once doesn’t mean they won’t go at it again. I don’t really mind that. Leo is in his break mode~ rn cause he’s not as aggressive about as he was before but give it some time and he’ll start gearing up for another Oscar campaign.

I thought he also won one for producing Moonlight, but that was just his production company.

Nah it was just for 12YAS.

His production company is pretty good since it's won 3 Best Pictures (The Departed, 12YAS, and Moonlight)

to win best picture, you must get a producer credit specifically. not an 'executive producer' credit. this is how Harvey Weinstein won one for Shakespeare in Love, he specifically took a producer credit and won
