Not every movie that makes it into a film festival is worth your time, and OP is here to sift through some of the clunkers for you! I saw someone say Finn in The Goldfinch is something like “a Slavic, androgynous Bette Davis” and I genuinely don’t know if it’s an insult or a compliment. I mean if I got that review I’d make that my bio on all social media platforms for all eternity.

Very disappointed to hear more than a few people say that they kinda underplayed adult Boris’s role in the last half of the movie

Hah @ that description! Finn's accent is a little all over the place, but I think he captured book Boris pretty well. I don't remember enough specifics about the end of the book to say if the second part of your comment is true, though.

Another reviewer said that Ansel had “incongruous meathead energy” which is also poetry but that one I can clearly see is a negative lmao

yeah I've read that he's mostly comic relief? Or that their relationship as kids is so underplayed that it makes little sense for him to show up as an adult to help Theo

i'm pretty sure that bette davis thing was meant as a compliment bc the sentence following that says that aneurin doesn't live up to finn's performance
