You may have noticed a theme of positivity in my last TIFF post, but it doesn't continue here. Not every movie that makes it into a film festival is worth your time, and OP is here to sift through some of the clunkers for you! This is not an exhaustive list, by any means, just films that OP managed to see.

I feel like this year Toronto festival is struggling? Not many good reviews and haven't heard many movies that have been sold to studios?

There have been a lot of well-reviewed films this year. I do think sales aren't as snappy as usual, but it's because studios have gotten burned on festival fare over the past year (Blinded by the Light, Late Night) flopping at the theater.

Amazon just bought Sound of Metal, a movie I put in the last TIFF post. Fox Searchlight bought The Personal History of David Copperfield before the festival started, The Aeronauts and Knives Out have already been acquired... it's the smaller titles that are going to struggle for buyers.

the 'ansel cant act' review of goldfinch is iconic. someone make an original about the iconic bad film reviews because id love to read it.
