I’m listening to the shining rn and god I fucking hate Jack Torrance. Like literally from chapter one I was like this man needs to die (some dreams do come true) and I’m sure that’s King’s intent.

Is he not going to give Stu and Fran a happy ending then?

I’m going to rewatch the shining but it’s honestly tainted by the fact that Kubrick tortured Shelley Duvall so much to get ~genuine reactions. Then whatshisface went on to do the same thing to JLaw w Mother!

The book version of The Shining is so much better than the movie. I really should reread it.

I’m really enjoying it! I initially got it bc I had an audible credit expiring and when in doubt, King, but I’m totally hooked. I think one of the problems w a lot of king books being made into movies is that so much of the fear is psychological. Like Pet Sematary? Good effort I guess but without Louis’s thought process being explained my bf said it didn’t make a lot of sense. But like...in the book is made so much sense and that was what made it scary to me, bc I was like “what would I do? WHAT IF....” and that’s terrifying!

And the shining, you start off hating Jack and you get Danny’s thoughts which genuinely adds soooo much to it

very late to this post but i definitely recommend the shining miniseries from the ‘90s if you haven’t seen it! carries a lot more nuance of the book and isn’t attached to any bts abuse like kubrick’s is

I was just reading an article that mentioned that, I didn’t know about it until now! Apparently it bombed but King himself wrote it. Telling that he hates Kubrick’s version, as well. Ill give it a go!
