congrats to bianca, but serena and her first serve today yeesh. Oracene was delivering with those reactions, I need gifs of her. most annoying thing about this though is brad gilbert being right and I absolutely cannot stand him

This USO has turned out to be tragic for me anyways, accept for Coco's run and in my opinion the best story of the USO...taylor townsend and her run. I love her style and what the USTA did to her was horrendous.

not looking forward to tomorrow and the many narratives that will arise, maybe the younger one can bring it for once because lord knows the young gen in ATP continue flopping while the young gen on the WTA are bringing it.

I don't know her whole story but I loved watching Taylor. It killed me when watching the Halep match though lol

I'm already irritated by the narratives lol

considering s&v is more or less dead and we get more baseline bashing thanks to the courts and what is encouraged by coaches now a days it was refreshing to see her win by that style and her coming the net was a thing of beauty.

if I'm not mistaken she was a successful junior, i think one of the top juniors, but was asked to sit out of the USO junior tournament and even denied a wild card into the main entry of the USO i think in 2012 because of her weight. Patrick Mcenroe legit was like we are concerned about her health and her long term development, which is complete bs and i think they also at one point refused to pay for her expenses so she had to pay for everything herself and unless you are in the top, tennis is fucking expensive. I know she split from the USTA a few years ago but not having that backing is super tough, because she i was watching one of her interviews and I dont think she has any sponsors or any major sponsors. Her schedule is also limited I think mostly to the US due to finances.

If I recall correctly, she was the #1 junior in the world when Patrick cut her funding. Of course, he was silent during her entire run

right, i knew she was a top junior, wasnt sure what her ranking was. patrick had some nerve this entire USO. I can't stand either McEnroe brother.

Oh wow, that is beyond shitty. I hope she got the right attention with her run here.

"the young gen on the WTA are bringing it."

how are they bringing it tho? they're so incredibly inconsistent. bianca will probably be yet another "one slam wonder". and what's ironic is that serena is really handing over the baton to these girls every time. it's almost like the kiss of death.

i dont think bianca will be a one slam wonder, she was able to win a slam to back up her good summer season, something the ATP next gen have yet to do. Also Osaka won two slams and I don't think barty is done winning slams. Halep backed up her 1 slam and won another. I do feel like there is a bit more depth.

I definitely do believe that serena not being able to bring her best and freezing in finals has a role to play but let me tell you even if the big 3 on the mens side literally handed the baton, the next gen atp would fall over themselves and this coming from someone who follows the ATP more closely. compare the top 10 of the wta to the top 10 of teh ATP and that is why I made my statement. People can say the big 3 are the greatest of all time but imo its too much of a coincidence

apart from halep and osaka, who have both been very inconsistent the entire season, i feel like there are so many girls who've surprised won a slam (at serena's expense more less) and promptly fucked off. there is no consistency, no frontrunners, no batch of girls dominating the game like it was in the 90's and 00's.

as far osaka is concerned i know she did have some knee issues and I know many thought it was an upset when she lost to bencic, but bencic leads that h2h and with tennis its always about match ups ( ... )
