Electric fences are kind of useless for bigger/more muscular dogs, my neighbor unfortunately has one and their pit mix used to get out all the time when he was younger, they don't give a shit. Get an actual fence or have it on a leash outside.

I don't think it was zapped by a fenced dog enclosure, sounds like they were out for a walk and it ran into one on a property and freaked.

unless it was an actual fence that was electric the dog would need to have a specific collar on to get zapped

I think they mean one of those wire electric fences people use in farming, but if the dog was on a leash this wouldn't have been an issue. And if you know people have electric fences why wouldn't your dog be on one?

Yea, people don't seem to realize they should be watching their dogs like they'd watch a young child, not just leave them outside alone for long stretches of time. I've never once seen my neighbors walk their dogs (and they're big, a pit mix and a golden doodle) they just let them out.

when i was growing up they were really popular and a great option for people with well behaved dogs who just liked to chill outside that probably wouldnt wander away anyway. but i remember so many peoples dogs running through them

I don't think electric collar fences are used in Australia. I've never seen one at least. I'm pretty sure this is a case of them going for a walk and the dog has gotten too close to a electric fence used for farming and run off.
