the reviews for rob are clearly the reason i need to see this movie lmao.

i dunno what's up with timo, the reviews for him are legit all over the place. some are calling it amazing while others are like 'this is bad' and 'he's one-note'. guess we'll see soon enough. i'm more surprised the critique's for depp's kid are more promising

I wish I could have recorded the sound my audience made when Pattinson first started speaking in his Fraaanch accent. I think he won everyone over by the end bc he's just so committed to its terribleness.

Yeah, I wrote "mixed" because they really are all over the place, definitely no critical consensus that I could find.

I seem to recall that Rob's performance in The Rover (same director) was really bizarre and purposefully(?) OTT, especially next to Guy Pearce being really understated, so maybe that's just what Michôd likes about him?? lol idk

Rob's role in The Rover wasn't bizarre or OTT. He was playing an emotionally and physically abused youth who had been so bullied by his older brother that he had basically shut down. It was a strong but delicate, nuanced performance that was recognized by the critics at the time.

At the press conference for The King, Michod talked about why he cast Pattinson: "I just had a feeling he would make it fun," said Michod. "I needed that. He is a supporting character. He doesn’t appear in the movie until an hour in. It was very, very important to me that when he did appear it was with razzle-dazzle."

Michod, who cast Pattinson in his second film The Rover, praised the actor for his career decisions. "I loved working with him. I loved how inventive he was. I loved how hungry he was to make bold choices," said Michod. "I just had this feeling that he would love to sink his teeth into this character because it wasn’t like anything he’d done before."

Rob's reviews are all good. It's a comic role and he has perfect timing ( ... )
