i can see people more readily streaming vs watching live

i wish they'd balance out these numbers a bit - more ppl than ever don't have traditional cable, ratings should reflect that

Forget cable, I don't even own a television. It's wild to me that digital views aren't taken more seriously these days.

Same here lol. I feel like that’s becoming more common though, I’ve brought up that I don’t have a TV and it’s usually older people that are like ‘what???’ but people around my age aren’t too phased by it

Right...I have one but God knows I don't turn it on half the time.

i think the honest to god problem is that linear will always cost more than digital in advertising - a 30 second spot commercial will make a company more than pre-roll or mid-roll during a live stream - until digital becomes more lucrative, i think, we're stuck with calculating ratings off of television more so than anything else

Exactly. YouTube should broadcast the VMAs tbh

I see people on the AYTO reddit stressing about the ratings of the current LGBTQ season and I'm like, child, of course classic Nielsen family type viewers ain't tuning in but I'm pretty sure that it does well with streaming. I know so many millennials who don't even own TVs but watch on the computer instead. then also take into account that like LGBTQ teens won't watch that on the family tv but on their computer inside their rooms instead.

that said, I'm hoping strongly that MTV will continue producing LGBTQ datings shows like AYTO.

television ratings have come a long way with DVR but they're still so behind in actually calculating the true watch of a show. it's insane we're still not there yet.

I know. it's insane how dated and antiquated the ratings model is, like between streaming and DVR, it's just not even realistic to still use live viewing as a meter of how a program is doing.
