The Instagram model look is out, being replaced by the VSCO girl

Urban Dictionary calls them the "Tumblr girls of 2019," which is pretty accurate.

However, real life and social media are so blended together now that you're likely to spot a VSCO girl at your local mall.https://t.co/HleNMuWytc

When I read it, I was like ofc it's white people.

White girls are the only ones who could get away with looking this sloppy on purpose. Let a bitch (me) go out to with unkempt hair and lose fitting work out clothes and see what happens.

I mean that's fair but if there's going to be a wave of fashion trends always is this not better? all I can think of is my young nieces not feeling the need to be a bad bitch contoured at age 12

You "hand-waved" my very real criticism of the blatant double standard that this fashion trend perpetuates.

ok having read further IA that I did

it sucks that, like everything else, minority girls are held to a higher standard. If this trend was truly universal then I could fully endorse it but it's just like everything else where it's only hip because white people are doing it

the girls participating in this trend are in school though lol this is not how they're showing up to interviews. they're highschoolers.

So..? I still couldn’t show up to school like this without intense judgment. When black/brown people do this it’s just called ghetto

i mean there's more to racial stereotyping than this. i grew up in very white schools, and you best believe I was supposed to conform their their trends.

I got sent home in middle school for dyeing my hair with a tinge of purple. There were so many white girls with purple, pink, blue, streaks in their hair and I got singled out. There are SO many stories of this kind of thing happening to black children. College campuses are more lenient re: dress code. But I still couldn’t go out dressed this sloppy without some kind of judgment overall. This trend favors non-black people.

hmm, this might be a class thing then. i wouldn't have gotten dinged for conforming at all. i would have gotten dinged for non-conforming, but still within the rules stuff, and did.

Wait a minute the girl in yt video is asian and I have a friend who's Pakistani and she has a vsco account. Why is this always an argument about how shitty white people are. You do know that plenty of ethnic people have terrible style and vsco accounts looking hella tragic???

Maybe I should be more specific about black women then. Because like I said above, this kind of style is usually seen as “ghetto” for us
