Can I 100% get what he's saying but also think that it's just a movie and it's fiction? The whole story is kind of ridiculous. It's not real life and sometimes I wish people would just leave it at that. I tried not to read too much into it as a historical reference or whatever.

That would be an acceptable reasoning if Tarantino hadn't tried to defend his portrayal of Bruce Lee as a pompous asshole by saying it was totally realistic (based on a quote he misattributed to Lee and an anecdote he completely misunderstood).
