Noémie Merlant plays a young artist who is recruited to secretly paint a portrait of a young noblewoman (Adèle Haenel). The woman has refused all other attempts to have her portrait taken as the portrait will be sent to potential suitors and she does not want to marry. Despite presenting herself as a humble walking companion the artist falls in love with her subject.

Written & directed by Céline Sciamma. The film also won the award for Best Screenplay at Cannes 2019 and the Queer Palme, an independent award given by journalists for the best film with LGBT+ subject matter.
