I have the iPhone XR and I don't miss the home button one second. Closing apps and switching between them is very intuitive and seamless. I'm also surprisingly fine without the headphone jack, I'm just annoyed that I cannot put any straps on my phone now. My next trip to Japan will change that when I can buy some cases with strap loops/holes.
I think a lot more people are getting that way, from what I’ve read it sounds like that’s part of the reason that iPhone sales are falling, because the phones from a couple of years ago are still so good that there’s no rush to replace them. The new phones don’t even sound like they’re going to be much of an upgrade
The prices getting too be ridiculously high is another factor, it’s £1,100 in my country for a 64gb iPhone Max, whereas I can pick up the Galaxy note 10+ with 256gb for £999?! For some reason Apple have started charging way more for international customers now, so it’s no wonder that sales for their new phones are dropping, they never used to charge us the exact same £ amount as the $ amount
