A new phone costs as much as a new MacBook which lasts about 8 years. My iphones starts declining after a year.

Why is folding a thing?

My 2010 MacBook Pro has lasted me nearly a decade before it started having problems this year. I’m definitely sticking to Apple in that department.

What sort of problems are you having? My mid 2010 MacBook pro started giving me issues this year, too. It has random kernel panics and I've done a bunch of stuff to try and fix it (new battery, upgraded to an SSD card, new thermal paste). The performance is better and I think I've finally figured out what my issue is, but getting almost ten years out of one computer that still managed to keep up with updated software is pretty good imo!

I had a used iPhone for about a year. I hated it and stick with Android, but my laptop has been great. I'm afraid of having to finally replace it because it's literally lasted me my adult life thus far lol

I got it repaired earlier this year but now my MacBook’s HDD is struggling. I can hear it loudly and it sometimes takes forever to load everything until I’m able to use it.

Yeah same I dread replacing my laptop when I have everything on there. Obviously I will try my best to transfer everything when its time.

Ohh, yeah. I got an external hard drive with my credit card points and backed up my computer, then I changed my hhd for the new ssd card I got for my birthday. The process was p painless tbh! I've been anxious about backing my stuff up for years but never got around to it until a few months ago lol. I think it took maybe ~8 hours or so to have everything up with time machine? I could still use it and everything, but I just left it alone and cleaned the house.

Fingers crossed we can get a little more time out of our machines! 🤞🏿

IDK if it is like what happened to me, but years ago when I installed Sierra, my fans did not want to stop running, and after some digging I found this to be the solution: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7684723

Yeah, I have a 2009 regular MacBook and it was pretty much my primary system until this year. I'm going to see if it can handle the new MacOS that apparently just came out (??)

i had a macbook pro from summer 2012 and it started dying after a year, but i purchased applecare...thank GOD. they said that sometimes there are "just bad apples" and replaced it fully. haven't had issues since! would definitely repurchase.

lol this makes me nervous! my macbook (of which i am using rn) is also from 2010 and still works perfectly for what i need it to - it helps that i've SEVERELY cut back using it within the last few years and i also replaced the battery in 2016

I got my MacBook in 2011 for $1200 CAD and it is finally starting to choke up...but that is a long time. I wasn't easy on it either! I am looking at repurchasing, but a MacBook with the specs I have currently seems to have gone up about $500-600. NOT vibing on that.

This is true and also not Apple exclusive. Apple computers SHOULD last considering the price. People don't spend that much on Windows laptops and then wonder why they die a few years later. If you spent the same amount you'd get much better specs and a computer that lasts just as long.

Exactly. I always see ppl comparing budget laptops to macs. Doesn't make any sense.

tbh... what I do is I get a PC laptop (since I game on my laptop and you can't game on a MacBook) and the total protection plan from Best Buy for 3 years. And inevitably near the end of those 3 years, the laptop craps out and then Best Buy pays for a new one. So the only money I'm out is the money for another 3 year protection plan for the new laptop.
