• verizon is selling tumblr to automattic, the company behind the blogging tool wordpress. while the size of the deal has not been publicly announced it's estimated at less than $3 million.

tbh, I still use tumblr and I like it better without the porn. But the world revolves around porn so I am not surprised that banning it was bad for business.

I don't use it for porn but there is a lot of nudity in art and film and it's such b.s. that those images are now blocked. I run a blog about women directors and there are a lot of women using nudity in a subversive way or even a non-sexual way and it's really frustrating that those images just get lumped in with porn and censored.

A tangential complaint but I noticed (and I've heard other people say this as well) that a lot of non-pornographic images of lesbians kissing or cuddling or holding hands were all censored by the algorithm which just really makes me wonder wtf was going on there.

i do understand that the format of the website was good for people who are into porn, in the same way that it's good for anyone with any kind of media interest. how you can follow blogs that cater to your interests, look at gifs, vids, or pics, save them in your likes, reblog to tag stuff you like. i just wish it could be on a separate website.
