yahoo bought the site in 2013 for $1.1 billion, but never really found a way to compete with the explosive growth of social networks like instagram. yahoo would eventually write off about $230 million of the site's value in 2016, and things didn't improve when verizon bought yahoo.

I still really love tumblr, it is just so great as an image posting site.I hope this deal is good for it. I did notice that there is waaaaay less activity on there after the dumbass porn ban which didn't even really ban porn but did fuck up my ability to post things like ferris wheels. Their content appeal algorithm is way better than when it first started but it still sucks.

the porn ban was laughable. i get so many porn bots following me or liking my posts, i've blocked so many since the "ban".

tbh I never used the site for porn, and now I can go into any actor tag and not see a bunch of 1) repetitive low-fi screencaps of any nude scene they've ever done, 2) porn manips or 3) porny fanart.

this honestly applies to more than just individuals too. like video game tags could really be truly cursed places pre-porn ban. i do not miss it lol

weirdly, i always associate tumblr with a comment you made about art photographs being removed for having female nipples.

initially, there was less porn on my feed but that lasted literally about three days then it was like the ban never happened. it'd be interesting if tumblr accidentally became a haven for gay porn...

The only real impact it had on me personally is that when I go into like Pokemon tags there isn't as much furry porn. There's still some, don't get me wrong, but those tags seem "cleaner." And a lot of people I followed who wrote NC-17 fanfic decided to jump ship cause apparently thought thought it would have a much larger effect than it did.

I agree. I never had porn on my dash, but sex scenes from.TV/movies I don't think should be counted as porn.

People always talk about the porn ban but Tumblr felt like a ghost town even before then... like the owners just let it die.
