seriously! although i did appreciate seeing DC and what the women there were being put through - literally took my breath away seeing the handmaids mouths sewn shut. i think that was serena's wake up call that nicole should stay in canada but now shes gotta think of a way to get herself there without going to jail and put her plan in motion. the icing on the cake was making lawrence have the ceremony with june and doing the exam on june afterwards.
I think seeing June broken down in the hospital was her wake up call. She thought of June as someone strong ("You were supposed to be one of the strong ones") so for her to see June broken down? If June can't make it in Gilead, how could she expect herself or her daughter to.
I thought the DC handmaids mouths being sewn shut was fucking ridiculous. How do they eat? Drink? Sneeze and yawn? The common cold would kill them off! It just felt...cheap. I hated it, and NOT because I was moved by the horror of dystopia.
IA they already had that thing where they cut out handmaid's tongues so they can't speak, so why would they do something so impractical and visually disturbing? they are so focused on optics, it just didn't make sense to me at all
