Last night’s performance of To Kill A Mockingbird ended abruptly after a backfiring motorcycle led to mass panic outside and then inside the theater. After two mass shootings in the past week, attendees and visitors to Times Square were on edge and mistook the loud noises as possible gunfire. Gideon Glick, who plays Dill Harris in the show, tweeted about it afterward:
Stopped our show tonight due to a motorcycle backfire that was mistaken for a bomb or a shooting. Screaming civilians tried to storm our theater for safety. The audience started screaming and the cast fled the stage. This is the world we live in. This cannot be our world.

Six, the pop musical about Henry VIII’s wives, is set to debut on Broadway in 2020. The show has already had successful runs in London and Chicago, and is set to open at the Brooks Atkinson Theater, where Waitress is currently finishing up a six year run. Previews are set to begin February 13th, and the show will open on March 12th.

Married actors Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale are set to star in a production of Medea at New York’s Brooklyn Academy of Music. The tragedy, originally written by Euripedes, was rewritten by playwright Simon Stone several years ago using the American true crime story of Debora Green, who poisoned her cheating husband and murdered her children. This adaptation has been produced in Amsterdam and London, but this will be the first production starring Byrne and Cannavale.
Stone’s most recent work was an adaptation of Yerma starring Billie Piper, which played in London and NYC.
Both Byrne and Cannavale have appeared on Broadway, with Cannavale recently starring in The Lifespan of a Fact with Daniel Radcliffe.

Just after the announcement of the Jonathan Groff-led Little Shop of Horrors Off-Broadway production (featured in this previous post), Pasadena Playhouse announced their own upcoming production of the musical. Pasadena’s take is set to star George Salazar (Be More Chill) as Seymour, with M.J. Rodriguez (Pose) as Audrey and Amber Riley (Glee) as Audrey II.
This production is set to begin performances on September 17th, the same day as the NYC production.
