This is my takeaway, too. There are a ton of stories that could be told which cover the years leading up to, during, and following WWI. Like, if you want to make a historical film... why not cover the Red Summer of 1919 in the States? I get that Nolan and Mendes, specifically, are British, but overall, men just don’t want to confront anything difficult about themselves which is the antithesis to being an artist!
