I used to be a dog walker and it was mostly fun, but was at times so stressful. Especially in NYC. Dealing with other people around, other people's dogs, other people's kids, the cars...

RIP to this sweetheart, I feel terrible his life was cut so short :(

I think it would be very stressful in NYC, the traffic there is crazy on a good day. I had a similar thing like this happen in Beverly Hills, but with a good outcome.

We were taking a rescue Pekingese for a test drive before we adopted him, and we were walking down Rodeo Dr. and he started pulling and running like a maniac and jerked the leash out of my hand. I had only met the dog 10 minutes before this and he was wild. He ran right out into the middle of the street but the funniest thing happened. Everyone in their cars had been watching us anyway and they all just stopped on their own, right where they were until I could run out and pick up the dog.

It was like a choreographed stunt in a movie. Traffic just stopped, no one honked, no one made any fuss. I think if it had been any street other than Rodeo Dr, it wouldn't have turned out that way. I was still mortified, running through traffic trying to get the dog.

We did not adopt the dog.

It it a totally LA thing. I'm just happy it wasn't on Wilshire Blvd because I don't think anyone would have stopped there.

My friend who had the rescue dog worked on the next street over from Rodeo, which is why we were walking the dog around the block to begin with. And of course it was a rescue dog because it was so uncontrollable. He needed to go to obedience school, the whole nine yards.

This reminds me of when I was a kid in south Florida. We decided to adopt a golden retriever rescue from a golden retriever rescue group (we had lost our golden retriever a few years before due to old age). So we pass all the inspections and when we go to meet him, it was at a rest stop parking. Highway on both sides (to this day idk why this spot was chosen). Anyway he’s like 2 and a half at the time and nuts, and somehow wrestles out of his collar. Everyone is shouting and chasing after him. I’m standing there like, there’s no way this dog doesn’t get hit by a car, wtf? Everyone is trying to get him for like 5 mins. And then my mom, fed up because she didn’t even want the dog and was only going along with it for the kids, calls his name. And the dog freezes, looks at my mom, and goes right to her. And to this day he only cares about my mom, the rest of us can go choke. My mom is HIS person. He’s such an adorable asshole.

That is funny. My first cat was like that. She only liked me and followed me around the house the way a dog does. She tolerated my parents but she hated my older sister. She would hiss at her every time she walked into a room. My sister is really sweet and didn't deserve that but you know cats.
