people who refuse to be aware of their privileges are some of the biggest dangers in our society tbqh

Shit, even just upper-middle class--sometimes even solidly middle class--kids have this distorted perception of privilege and insist that they have none of it. How racism doesn't exist anymore (except reverse racism), all public schools are made equal, and other equally absurd claims. This is the foundation of the modern libertarian movement.

exactly. it's such a joke when nepotism ppl (or rich ppl in general) act all mad & offended when ppl say they didn't have to work as hard to get where they are when it's nothing but the truth.

It was annoying when people were all “isn’t it cute what her Dad said about her” like he wants being totally clueless.

Exactly. She might have had to audition but plenty of people don't even have the chance to audition for these projects. The fact that she already knows these people and they know her gives her the opportunities that so many others don't have. No one is saying they don't work but they started a lot further ahead than a lot of others have.

real. my boyfriend and i had a discussion like this and i feel very strongly that absolutely none of my achievements are my own - so much of what i've been able to accomplish in life is directly linked to the financial status of my parents and the help they have given me. took a long time for him to understand i wasn't crapping on myself or saying i don't work hard but trying not to hype myself up to a status i dont deserve.

Honestly this is something I struggle with, because I know my privilege has got me v far, but my depression brain also wants to shit on my accomplishments, and I can't seem to find a middle ground of acknowledging how my privilege has helped me get them and also having self worth for those accomplishments
