that said, i was waiting for it to build to something more than it did. i was expecting an out of the woods/getaway car type bridge, but i'll have to give it another listen now that i know that's not coming
yeah it definitely felt like a quick prologue track that would switch quickly to a song that hits harder. i liked it a lot but it was dreamy and aimless.
Yeah but if it had that type of bridge people would just say the song is “too Bleachers” like they do w/Getaway Car. Which is a great song and should’ve been a single
someone in r/taylorswift said they think it's a filler track that will go straight into a more upbeat song since that's usually how she orders her tracklistings. but i'm just sitting here like "why did she release a filler song?"
God, this is Track 5 what the fuck. I like AYHTDWS more than most, but this song is just frustrating. I know everyone praises "So It Goes" but that's what this song reminds me of because So It Goes felt like an unfinished interlude type song to me too.
I said this in reply to someone else but i love that song, then someone here told me it rips off St Lucia - All Eyes On You. You can literally sing that one over the top of AYHTDWS with the main vocal track removed. It's SO blatant, especially the chorus
I went to listen to that song, and you are right... I can 100% hear it, especially around 0:50. She does this with so many songs... I don't get why more people don't call her out for it.
they weren't a big band at the time, that was their breakthrough. That album came out in 2013  and it's a faaaaar superior tribute to the 80s sound than the milquetoast efforts of 1989 (& I do love it despite that) but yeah, stream When The Night.
