The panel on The Real (Adrienne Houghton, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai, and Tamera Mowry-Housley) discuss if bookworms are a dying breed. A recent study by San Diego State University says 1/3 of high school sophomores in the United States haven’t read a book (hard copy or digital) in the last year.

Everyone's been thinking this for decades and decades as the number of people who read for dun has dropped for decades and decades. It's not that complicated. As people have more and more choices for leisure activities, the number of people who spend that time reading has dropped in the same way that fewer people are watching TV than they did decades ago.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure statistics actually show that young people are reading more fiction than older generations.

I was the same. I think I made it to the end of grade 11 before I really lost my desire to read for fun, there was just so much school pressure. I did history as a degree so I was reading dozens of lengthy articles a week and it felt like all I could do just to keep up. I didn't really start reading for fun again until my late 20s.

I'll admit that I'm not an avid bookreader, maybe 2/3 books a year tops

But I do read long form articles in 3 languages every day. That must account for something, right? Lol
