I saw both Dark Phoenix AND Secret Life of Pets 2 last night.

Secret Life of Pets 2 was basically three episodes of a TV show entertwined together. It made me wonder whether Illumination is going to get a TV department like Dreamworks does at some point, because I feel like this is a universe that doesn’t really justify being cinematic in any way but fits as a TV show. The kids in my theater LOVED it though. And Kevin Hart is sooo annoying in this.

Dark Phoenix wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be? It wasn’t GOOD, but I was expecting it to be excruciating to sit through and it was mostly just boring. I’m glad they didn’t try to extend it over 2 hours. I did tear up a bit at the very last scene though (which I assume had to be a last minute add-on when they realized this would be the final X-Men film). There was a point when I loved this franchise and the last scene was a nice reminder of that to me.

Also Nic Hoult looked great when he was non-blue Hank. The glasses and sweaters look works for him.

Like it’s generally pretty streamlined? They don’t waste a lot of time and there’s basically no sideplots. I give it credit for that.

What's the last scene?

Since I’m bad at spoiler cuts, it’s basically pretty similar to the scene that ends the first X-Men film but nobody’s in jail.

So, [Spoiler (click to open)]the 2 jerks playing chess? Is it still James & Michael, or did they sneak in Patrick & Ian?

So do these films cross out all the original ones with Hugh, Halle and co? If Raven was killed in this timeline of the early 90's, how was Rebecca Romijin's Mystique around for the timeline of the earlier movies?

I’m pretty sure Days of Future Past kind of fucked that whole timeline all to hell in the first place. So I can’t really say.

i think i should've gone into dark phoenix with the 'this is really kind of part of the x-men universe but not really a sequel/prequel' mentality and i would've been fine with it. unfortunately i didn't and it was just one big BUT THIS MAKES NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SENSE

i did like sophie in the role, but i realized i had x-men fatigue at this point and don't mind that we won't see another movie for at least five years

Good news for me is that I don’t remember anything about DOFP/Apocalypse, so I was able to just roll with a lot of it.

I’ll forever be bummed that none of the new cast films were able to run with what First Class set up. Oh well. I feel like the last minute or so was a decent amount of emotional closure for me. Im ready to move on.

(I don’t think the MCU is gonna be great for the X-Men though, but I have MCU fatigue.)

Nic Hoult did nothing for me in Tolkien but SO MUCH for me as Hank.

I heard the first SLOP was good but it's probably going to follow the Shrek formula
