i give them a year, if that.

let me use this post to say though that i can't believe how much they messed up on handling this season's finale. i'm looking forward to hearing everyone involved continue to ignore the subject at comic con.

I wanted to post one of the many thinkpieces about s4 but didn’t have the energy :(

yeah i get that, it was a strange experience tbh. i can laugh about it now mostly cause the silence from the actors is pretty funny and i live for drama, but they truly fucked up. i expected better from this show.

was it you whose birthday was the day of the finale/the day after?? hope you had a nice time regardless

Omg sorry for the super late reply but yes that was me haha and thank you! I had a good time in NYC even though I read way too many articles and tweets and posts about it. It was just such a strange TV/fandom experience like you said!

i have no real faith they learned anything from it, but at least it reached them. hopefully they're more conscious writing the other characters' arcs going forward

I hated the finale, I'm never watching again.

i wish i had your resolve lol. i'll keep watching for the other characters but i'm not happy about it, especially since it feels like they fucked over everyone else as well

Ugh now I'm mad all over again. Besides the awful handling of Quentin and Eliot, I'm so pissed at how every single female character's story somehow wound up being about a dude. Alice was on this great quest to rediscover her love of magic, and then she winds back up in a toxic relationship with Quentin. Julia had a huge choice to make -- god or mortal -- and fucking Penny23 got to make it for her. Kady became the leader of the hedges but then admitted she really only ever wanted to be Penny’s gf. Margo found a way to keep Fish Josh alive so she could go save Eliot but instead stayed behind for no reason??? AHHH.

i like q/alice so i don't agree they're toxic tbh. mismatched, maybe. but i agree with everything else. i said from around midway the season, when they started to hint at q dying, that i'd be okay with it as long as it was done well which... it just wasn't.

they didn't just fuck over quentin, they fucked over everyone else too. i love julia, but she had zero personality this season and her storyline went nowhere. margo and fish josh was a joke. kady's storyline was great, before it disappeared again. both penny's are just there, and eliot's one-episode arc was undone by the finale. if s4 was supposed to convince me this show works without q then they failed, because it's clear they can't write a proper arc for anyone that isn't him. really the only arc i liked this season was alice's, and then they made her miserable too.

clearly i'm still mad too lol.

I def loved Quentin/Alice in Season 1 and yeah maybe toxic isn't the right word, but I just feel like so much has happened between them. And I really don't like that Quentin seemed to have permanently closed that chapter for his own sanity only to reopen it like 3 episodes later. Yeah I'm definitely dubious about them continuing without Q... I'll wait and see how people are liking it before I decide to watch.

their reunion was def super rushed and clearly only happened cause his death needed to be even more tragic. which is maddening since they denied all of that to eliot for the sake of 'realism'

i think it's a brilliant show at times, but i can't in good faith recommend it after the s4 finale, and there's definitely some very questionable writing decisions in the seasons before that too. maybe it helps to be prepared though? ask your friend to give you a heads up on trigger warnings?
