I'm sad that we didn't get a woman winner (it's been 84 26 years...) but I love Bong Joon-ho and I'm happy for him.

Sciamma looked really upset to have won Screenplay. She even made a little comment about it during the ceremony. I have to go back and re-watch cause the stream was shitty but it was something like "Oh and here I was thinking I was a director..." she also definitely had a history making Palme d'or winners speech planned talking about the importance of the female gaze and ending on her great collaborations with Adèle. I wish she had won director, it would have been more groundbreaking.

Hugely excited for Diop as well. Huge fucking prize and I don't think anyone was predicting it.

lol. cannes is not the oscars where you have the awards season predicting the winners with 99,9% certainty. i feel for her but she psyched herself out. a win is still a win tho.

I know, I know but she definitely believed her own hype and she had a lot of raves and excellent reviews.

Still excited for her film anyway.

Remember when Maren Ade also had "hype and she had a lot of raves and excellent reviews"? I get your disappointment, but it's Cannes after all.

I don't think it's a good idea to be so sure you're going to win at a festival such as Cannes. There's bound to be many great movies there, it just feels rude to me.
Parasite is the first Korean film to win Palme d'Or, so I'd say it's also kind of groundbreaking.
