[Spoiler (click to open)] I thought he did form a family. Steve and Sam were best friends. Then he of course had his old best friend back in his life. I just find it hard to believe that after Tony died he was thinking everything will be okay, I can just leave now and live in the past even though I have this new family right here.

I'm just not that big of a Peggy and Steve shipper. I thought they were great in the first movie though and I understand he always will have a soft spot for her but I felt like it was pushed to be this great love more than it was. They didn't know each other that long. Peggy was the first woman to give him a chance...even before he had the serum so I get that she will always be special. I feel like he could've found happiness in the present. Peggy was able to move on from Steve so why couldn't he? If not Sharon...someone lol. They really did do Sharon and that actress dirty.

But like I said...they needed Evans out of his contract somehow lol. Because I don't see Steve retiring when he's able to fight. I really thought he was going to die.

[spoiler]I suppose the family he formed wasn't enough for him to get by and keep it together in present day. idk if the avengers, apart from Sam, were truly his family or that he felt they were his family. they came and went simply based on what fight was happening at the time. I guess he thought Sam would be okay without him, idk.

I do wish they established the avengers and their relationship a lot more, they could have done more to establish them as a true found family, but that is another rant.

Idek I suppose i'm trying to rationalize it and give it more nuance than it deserves and the russos/writers just knew tony had to die, and therefore steve had to live and they thought that the epic ending would be the reunion of steve/peggy. I'm honestly guessing they assumed more people would be angry about tony's death and thought most fans would be satisfied with Steve's.
Funny enough it seems that despite all the brain washing, Bucky's far more well adjusted by the end of this series. I guess Wakanda was really good for him but I guess there just isn't anything for him in the past life anymore compared to Steve.

I nearly choked when he said he lost the love of his life when he went into the ice, I'm like ehhh? there are more established pairings in this universe than steve/peggy.
