Primal Scream music video for re-issued song "Velocity Girl" features Edie Sedgwick
Primal Scream's 1986 track "Velocity Girl" is being re-released ahead of their retrospective singles collection titled "Maximum Rock'n'Roll."

The music video for the re-release stars Edie Sedgwick in clips from "Ciao! Manhattan," and the song is inspired by the 1960's Pop Icon.
“I had an Edie Sedgwick type character in mind when I wrote ‘Velocity Girl’,” says Bobby Gillespie. “I read Jean Stein’s biography about her and I wanted to meet a girl like that. Hanging out with Warhol, The Velvet Underground , Bob Dylan and shooting speed whilst looking absolutely fabulous. Super hip and beautiful. She was the muse. I love her.”
The collection will be come out in May on 2 disc CD and 2 sets of 2 LPs. In addition to the release, Primal Scream will play two gigs in the UK: May 20 (The Haunt, Brighton) and May 21 (Scala, London).

During the 1960's, Edie Sedgwick (1943-1971) was one of the few woman figures in the male dominated New York Underground Art Scene. Her collaboration with Andy Warhol set the stage for many movements in art, film, music and fashion since the 1960's.

While recording their 1989 album Sonic Temple, front man Ian Astbury became enamored in Warhol's Factory and Edie Sedgwick.
"It was kinda like I was really interested in Warhol's scene, The Velvet Underground, and really interested in Edie Sedgwick and just was compelled to write something about it."
Dramarama - Anything, Anything
Like Primal Scream, the band Dramarama uses clips from Ciao! Manhattan to their music video for their song "Anything, Anything." A photo of Edie also appears on the cover of this single.
