At his age I was doing mall tours.

I don't know why this made me laugh so much, but it did. Also, it makes me feel old because I definitely remember those mall tours and what a clusterfuck they were.

was it just like meet and greets at a convention, but at a mall? I didn't know that was a thing.

Yeah, if memory serves the cast literally had to go to different malls across the country and sign autographs at Hot Topic and like, conduct Q&As in food courts.

It was hilariously low budget, and of course way more people showed up than anyone expected so they were a logistical nightmare.

You don't have to imagine, there's video. At the first stop in San Francisco, 10,000 women gathered outside the mall hours before it opened. The mall was not prepared. There was almost a riot just while they were waiting to get in. It made all the national evening news programs. "Fans riot at mall," and this was before the film even opened.

This is him arriving, and the screams never stopped.

This is Chicago where the screaming continued and he does a Q&A:

All his appearances were solo, they sent the rest of them out in pairs but they didn't attract crowds at all, so they cancelled the rest of their appearances and just kept sending Rob out.

I remember that. Summit thought that there would be 100-150 people. Whoops!

Yep, it was Hot Topic. They were way too crowded to be IN the Hot Topic. Hot Topic hosted them but they were in like the center of the mall, food court area or whatever. On a big stage. I worked one of them. RP was so nice and charming. Like cracking jokes left and right. He got insane personal questions from the fans but he would just joke and be nice to everyone.

I met him inside a movie theatre here in Mexico City. Dude signed autographs for a couple hours, received gifst and all that sorta things, and I remember going back to look for my camera and all the gifts were there. Either he left them there or he wasn't allowed to take them with him.
