'The View' Round-Up: Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Trump Skipping Correspondents' Dinner, and More

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand appeared on The View to talk about about her presidential campaign. Abby asks Gillibrand about why she's struggling in the polls compared to people with less name recognition like Mayor Pete. Gillibrand says she has always been discounted and talks about past successful campaigns where she was underestimated. She says this election is a marathon, not a sprint, so she's not disheartened at all by the poll numbers.


“I think we need to start rewarding work again in this country,” Democratic presidential candidate @SenGillibrand says.

Gillibrand wants to provide job training. She says you can pay for it through community colleges, state schools, and apprenticeships. She says they do this well in New York. She is in favor of unions and collective bargaining.

Gillibrand says Joe Biden will have to answer to voters himself. She talks about her record of standing up for women regarding sexual assault allegations. She says the U.S. needs someone brave (her) who does the right thing even when it's hard.

The co-hosts discuss Republicans launching a primary challenge against President Trump. Abby and Joy agree that it's unlikely that a primary challenge will be successful. Sunny says that presidents who have to fend off primary challengers typically lose in the general election.

Sunny says it's a shame that the president doesn't have a sense of humor. Abby says Trump has a lot of material to work with regarding the media's coverage of the Mueller report. Whoopi doesn't think it's funny. Sunny says we owe last year's comedian Michelle Wolf an apology because she was right about Sarah Sanders lying to the press.

Nic Cage's ex is demanding spousal support because she lost out on business opportunities throughout the four days they were married. Sunny says that Cage looks very inebriated in the video of when they got married in Vegas. Whoopi says she got married while drunk.
