This was The New York Times article from 2001 linked in articles about Leaving Neverland and there were so many revelations for me. Joy saying that Wade financially supported the family since he was 10, Wade dating Mayte Garcia (Prince’s ex-wife), Wade choreographing the 2001 Super Bowl halftime show, and Wade choreographing Mya, P!nk, and Usher’s MTV icon tribute to Janet.
Also comparing the 2001 MTV Icon to 2015 BET Janet dance tribute, you can really see the difference in choreography level from Wade at just age 18 and Gil Duldulao at age 36. For example, the transition where P!nk jumps off the chair to Usher landing after jumping off the bench to go from P!nk’s Miss You Much to Usher’s Alright segment compared to the abrupt transitions between Tinashe, Jason, and Ciara’s segments... Also P!nk, Usher, and Mya all emphasized precision, while Tinashe’s Pleasure Principle couldn’t hold a candle to Mya’s, Jason was outdanced by his back up dancers, and Ciara was sloppy and ahead of the music and back up dancers.
