Not make-up but skin so here is my question: can you be allergic to sun without getting rashes and blisters?

Every year when the sun is getting more intense, my skin goes to the gutters. I get red blemishes, my skin is angry red and when it gets warmer and I only wear short sleeves, my arms tend to get more pimples too. And I wear SPF fucking 50, for crying out loud

Is it possible you're allergic to the sunscreen?

My friend is.

I don't think I am? I once had a BAD reaction to an SPF, but I stupidly rubbed an older SPF meant for the body on my face and my whole face, neck and chest were covered in whiteheads. But since then, I've learned my lesson and only ever use SPF meant for the face without added crap and I never had that reaction again

I am too. I can only use physical sunscreens and sometimes depending on the brand I still get a reaction because yours truly is allergic to certain metals.

I have sensitive skin and rosacea, so i gotta be careful about the sun regardless. I’m on a medicine for rosacea that make me photosensitive so maybe that’s the case for you? They advise to stay out of the sun from 12-4 which obviously isn’t always possible, but i make an effort to wear a hat if i need to be out during those hours and try not to spend more than 15 minutes outside if it’s high noon and the sun is really bright.

I don't know if I have rosacea, but I'm suspecting I might. My skin has always tended to get red easily, but all I know is that in the last couple of years, every year when the sun starts to get stronger, it's game over for me

Rosacea, if left untreated, can get worse with age. Try seeing a dermatologist if you can. There are treatment options. There are various things that can be triggers for those with rosacea and sun CAN be one of them. Extreme temperatures too, so if you live in a part of the world that can get very hot or very cold, that can also trigger a flareup. Even exercise can do it unless you’re in a room with the air blowing, got a fan, and drinking very cold ice water. Spicy food (sadly) is also a trigger for me. My skin gets red and very hot to the touch and even cool water stings if i splash it on my face

Fortunately flareups don’t last forever and i don’t really get papules and pustules

Yeah I think I might try for a referral to a dermatologist. I kinda never even bothered because getting a referral for a problem that isn't dead serious is hard here. Or maybe that's in my head lol.

What do you skincare wise to calm your face down?

I read the ingredient lists for any new product I try and make sure there are no irritants like fragrance or most essential oils with a few exceptions ( a few essential oils are beneficial and calming to skin but most are irritants).

I only use fragrance free products that are really gentle. My dermatologist recommended cerave pm for day and night use. I like drunk elephant products but they’re so expensive. Once I’ve found a routine I like, I keep it

There’s not much I can do to calm down my skin during a flare up. I just wait for it to pass and avoid triggers. I found a site that has a low of triggers, I’ll look it up in a bit

I do pretty much the same as you. I avoid any product that contains fragrance and other harsh ingredients. Maybe I need to stop using acids entirely, but the acids I do use are proven to be good products and low in percentages.

Which is why it's so annoying my skin is acting like a moody, piece of shit teenager. There's no logical good reason for it to be this way

AHA and BHA is beneficial and safe for most skin types

I also consult beautypedia b/c they’re sticklers for skincare that’s irritant free and will tell you about any problem ingredients

Interesting, my dermatologist said to just let my rosacea be unless it gets too hurtful.

Oh wow, it can cause serious damage if left untreated. To the eyes especially.

Idk i’ve always heard it gets worse if left untreated, especially as you age

I'd read that and I asked her about it, and she said as long as i keep going to the check ups and don't feel pain I'm fine.

The sun/heat is a big trigger for me, but it's also food. I hate how my face basically shows when my eating isn't going well..

Yeah, i can’t eat spicy food at ALL. Same with sun/heat and exercise if i’m not taking frequent ice water breaks or in a building with the AC down. Can’t exercise outside.

I know if I have spicy food I’ll have a flareup and it sucks

can I ask what medicine you’re on for rosacea? My doctor keeps putting me on the same antibiotic again and again for my rosacea, and it helps a little, but not much and I’m worried about the effects of being on antibiotics so much.
