-At the age of 27, Cobain had been missing for six days before his body was found in the garage of his Seattle home in 1994
-Mark Lanegan, a member of Screaming Trees, said Cobain hadn't called him or anyone in his family in a week, which led him to believe something bad had happened
-He had attempted suicide in Rome in March, at which point Courtney Love told MTV, “I hate it - I can’t play with them anymore.”
-At that point, he only wanted to make music with Michael Stipe of REM. They had lots in the works, but nothing was recorded.
-An intervention was held, he went to rehab, and managed to escape - details are sketchy, but it was believed he jumped a fence when he went out for a cigarette
-On April 1, he spoke to Courtney Love for the last time. He told her she made a really good album, and "Just remember, no matter what, I love you."
-The rest is history: He was found with a self-inflicted shotgun wound and a suicide note that has been speculated about ever since.

It's a long read, but it's worth it. He meant a lot to a lot of people, and to be honest, it's hard to sum up his impact in an ONTD post. RIP
