April 5, 2019 It's been a damn while since we've had two big releases one weekend, and we start off with WB's latest DC movie 'Shazam!', which started off its release with $6M on Thursday night, and is expected to make $45M-$55M this weekend in 4,217 locations in the U.S./Canada (on a $100M budget - surprisingly low for a superhero movie).
Right behind it is the newest film adaptation of Stephen King's 'Pet Sematary', which made $2.3M on Thursday and is expected to make at least $20M this weekend at 3,585 sites (on a $21M budget).
The third movie out with a decent number of Thursday preview screenings was some racist mess called 'The Best of Enemies' starring Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell, which made $265,000 on Thursday, and is expected to make $6M-$12M from 1,440 screens (on a $10M budget).
Also out this weekend in limited release is Claire Denis's 'High Life', the Aretha Franklin doc 'Amazing Grace', the awful British drama 'Peterloo', Elle Fanning destroying my soul in yet another terrible movie 'Teen Spirit' (oop that's next week), and 'The Public' starring and directed by Emilio Estevez.
