This trailer gave me chills, probably bc I just went to a 35th anniversary screening of The Karate Kid this weekend, and everything's super fresh in my head. Cannot. Fucking. Wait.

Tory with a Y? I'm wondering if she's Ali's daughter. Could possibly be Mike Barnes daughter.

I think the "Tory with a Y" is probably just a call back to Ally, since Miguel is the "Daniel" character (even though he's gone to the "dark side"), but I think her being Mike Barnes's daughter is a great theory, especially since Sean Kanan has said he appears in this season.

I just hope the story still stays focused on Johnny and Miguel. AGREED. It worries me that the trailer seems to be focusing so much on Kreese and Daniel/Miyagi-Do. I'm hoping it's just because those are the new developments this season, and because they're such perfect foils for each other. Plus the nostalgia element. But this story, at it's core, to me, is about Johnny's redemption and Miguel's journey/coming-of-age. I really hate the place they left him in last season, and I don't want to see him as just some flat villain this go around. I'm not super worried yet though, because the writers seem to have a good sense of what works for the story, plus it seems like the ( ... )

i loved the karate kid as a youth and the last 10 seconds w/ "you wanna finish this?!" made me gasp and i don't even watch this show lmao
are there no poc? that bums me out. also kinda wild these kids are seemingly having regular karate fights in their hallways and malls

Xolo Maridueña, the actor who plays the lead teen role Miguel (at least, he was the lead last season, hoping he's not shunted off to the side this season), is Latinx. Another one of the main kids from the Cobra Kai dojo, Aisha, is black (the actress's name is Nichole Brown). Apart from that, most of the main characters are white from what I can remember.

Also, life_after_luv pointed out (before LJ ate all their comments) that Joe Seo, who plays Kyler, the main teen villain of S1, is Korean-American. I forgot about him bc he drops off halfway thru the season.

I didn't know this existed. I kinda want to watch, but Mr. Miyagi was the best part of Karate Kid and Daniel was like the worst.

If you feel that way, you should DEFINITELY give Cobra Kai a watch. The show centers more around Johnny than Daniel, and really lampshades the fact that Daniel is kind of a dick. Plus, and this was major for me, it really honors the memory of Pat Morita.

I think LJ ate my comment, cause I can't see it anymore. But yes, you should watch Cobra Kai. The first two episodes are free right now on you tube. That will be enough to give you a feel for the show and also hook you in. You can also do the free trial to watch the whole season and season 2, then just cancel. I was skeptical and just knew without a doubt it was gonna suck, boy was I wrong. It is quite the opposite. I never knew how much I would end up loving Johnny.

Their bonding scene in season 1 was one of the best parts. Their crappy singing in the car, a trip down memory lane over drinks about Ali. I have a feeling they will come together to take down Kreese. Or at least I'm hoping. IMHO Daniel deserves that kick in the face though. Johnny owed him one. lol
