I was in Paris the night Obama was elected (I voted by absentee ballot before I left), and we went to Harry's American Bar and they have a ballot box for American's to cast their ballots in and at midnight they count them and there was a lot of celebrating. But it was really strange to be in Paris on election night (and Harry's Bar is tiny, for anyone who's read about it but never been there. I was expecting some big, lavish place but it's a hole in the wall).

I'm kind of ashamed that I didn't vote in my first election. It was George W. 2nd term. I've voted ever since I've been registered after that though.

no shame lol. i voted in the midterms and i forgot to look up my ballot like a dummy so i p much voted downticket and guessed when there were multiple dems (yikes lol).

i was a political junkie in high school--mostly bc it was trump's first run and i was 17 and pissed off i couldn't vote. i live in a swing state so it's high stakes

Looking up your ballot beforehand should be taught in high school government/civics classes. It's really important! Voting without being informed almost defeats the purpose, imo. It also saves you a TON of time at the polls. Plus if you are voting on state/county-wide measures, those are often worded so awfully in legalese that half of the time you might not even know to vote YES or NO. I think they do that on purpose, though. smh ( ... )

I was 17 for that one and was so annoyed cause I hated him so much and my mom was voting for him (don't worry, she's officially a democrat now)

I remember being the human embodiment of the frowny face when the election was called for W the second time.

I was just *really* depressed after the last election.

2004 was my first one too. i did vote (for kerry obvs) in that one but i missed voting for obama's second term tho because my absentee ballot got reject because my "signature did not match the one on record". lol who knew that i don't sign my name the same way as i did when i was 18.
