Us having so many nominees is not doing the Dems any favors and will be a factor when we lose the presidency again next year.

Agreed. Every nominee announced after like the 8th person pisses me off. We're going to lose because they can't get their shit together.

I think I disagree with this. If you look at most of the platforms or listen to the candidates, most of them aren't that far off from each other. There are definitely differences, but the idea that a lot of candidates are running around the country, spreading mostly a centralized message might be helpful. I don't know if it wins back the Presidency. I mean, I don't know if anyone can beat Trump with the Electoral College. I think he'll probably lose the popular vote again. But it's not bad for democrats to be out there talking about democratic messaging all over the place.

I will say that I live in Iowa and I've seen five candidates. I have two that I plan to attend this weekend. I may not like a particular candidate, but it reinforces how I feel about the overall democratic message. I also suspect folks are going to start dropping out in the next 2-3 months because they won't be able to afford to go on.

Are you seeing Andrew Yang? He's supposed to be in Iowa soon I think.

I haven't seen him yet. I think he's a bit out of my radius (willingness to drive about 60 miles), but he has been in town on several occasions so I assume he will be back. Edit: I think he was in town in the middle of the month, but I know he's been around at least a few other times. His Facebook ads usually show up when he's here. It's sometimes hard because I have to pick a candidate to see. The day I saw Klobuchar, I could have driven an hour and seen Booker. At the same time I saw Klobuchar, Beto was in that small town, but nobody knew he was going to be there until late.

This weekend Dalaney and Castro are in the area and I'm going to try to go to them. So far I've been to Warren, Gillibrand, Sanders, Buttigieg, and Klobuchar.

That's crazy you've seen so many already! I've never been to see a presidential candidate speak but I hope to if they ever come close to me

I moved from North Dakota so this is all foreign territory for me! The last time I saw a campaign event in person was Obama/Clinton. Trump and Pence have been in NoDak several times but I didn't go to see them because they're flaming trash.

It's been fascinating! The kinds of events, the venues, the candidates and how they practice pitches and answer questions (some much better than others). Talking with other people at the events. And the fact that anyone willingly talks to the media.

There are always a lot of candidates in the running at this point in the process. In 2015 there were like 20 republicans gunning for their party’s nomination.

What? No, there’s absolutely not always this many candidates. There are usually 2, sometimes 3. With 65 nominees, they ended up with Trump. They wouldn’t have if he’d been running against one or two others. It split the voters and the worst candidate got nominated.

Ahead of election ‘08 there were 8 major candidates ahead of the Dem convention (and at least 3 nobodies). In ‘92, 6 major candidates (and at least 2 nobodies).

As I said, there has always been a glut of candidiates at this point in the process.

yes and he won the election so obviously it wasn't the worst candidate for what they wanted to achieve

Trump won the presidency even though he came from a super crowded primary so this theory makes zero sense
