On March 25, 2001, Bjork attended the Oscars, as one of the nominees for Best Original Song. She would lose the award to Bob Dylan but she would win by wearing one of the most iconic Oscar dresses of all time. Comedian Joan Rivers would remark that Bjork should be "put into an asylum" while Canadian TV Host Steven Cojocaru called it "probably one of the dumbest things I've ever seen", exposing themselves both as fashion critics with no appreciation for the interesting or absurd. Bjork, humble queen, would late respond "it's just a dress".
The dress, designed by Marjan Pejoski, came with six eggs for Bjork to "lay" on the red carpet.
Now a pop culture icon, the dress has since been parodied many times. In the year following it's original appearance, it would be parodied by both Ellen Degeneres and Kevin James, at the Emmy's and People's Choice Awards respectively.
The dress would also later be parodied in Razzie nominated movie, White Chicks.
Versions of the dress would also appear in tv shows such as Hannah Montana, The Fairly Odd Parents, Kim Possible, MadTV, Archer, Leverage, and RuPaul's Drag Race.
In 2014, the Fashion world would finally try and right their wrong against Bjork, when it was reimagined at the Valentino Spring 2014 Couture fashion show at Paris Fashion Week.
